The Author – Will Imanse
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you did not do, than the ones you did.” ~ Mark Twain
The quote above is something that the author and his wife live by. When an option to move into an RV full time presented itself Will and his wife jumped at the chance. Will and Marilyn Imanse lived in a motor home for over 10 years. It started as a way to follow Will’s job around as a tower and antenna technician for the local phone company. During this time he has learned a lot about full timing, both from experience and from other RV’ers met along the way. Will and his wife have traveled from Northern British Columbia, Canada to the Alaska Panhandle, down the west coast of the US and across the US to Arizona, as well as all the way down South to Manzanillo, Mexico. They have lived in temperatures from -25C (15F) to +35C (100F) with no problems. In fact, in one particular instance they experienced both these extreme temperatures in a two week period.
Will has been an advanced Ham Radio operator for over 35 years with an extensive background in electronics, electro mechanics, communications electronics, computer communications, computer hardware and software, satellite communications, general mechanics, tower and antenna technician and also is a Certified Master Rigger.
Will kept getting asked the same questions over and over again from people who were interested in full time RV’ing. They wanted to know how to go about doing the same thing he was doing. They just had so many questions about so many things. Will found that he knew most of the answers because of his extensive background knowledge and experience. He tried to find a book that he could recommend that would answer all the questions but found that there was really nothing available that was all encompassing in one book. Hence, Will decided to write one of his own. “Full Time in an RV” is the result of many years of full timing trial and error, observing others and sometimes just observing the obvious.
When Will retired from his job as a technician he gave up the land based RV and moved onto a water based RV – a 36’ Sceptre sailboat that he intends to sail around the world in. When you think of it, a sailboat is just another form of Recreational Vehicle. The only thing that will change is the scenery. Home is where the wheels or keel are located.
